Essential cooking apps
These days, everyone is a chef! Since Jamie Oliver, Rick Stein and Gordon Ramsay have hit our screens thousands of people are heading into the kitchen to cook up a storm. Cooking is not just fuel, we cook to entertain and for pure personal pleasure.
Italian dishes have for decades been a firm favourite with the British public, but curry has now taken over as the UK’s favourite meal. It was however, the number one take away option, but seeing as people across the country are heading back into the kitchen, many people are now cooking their own curries.
Now, as technology continues to move on there are plenty of things to help you in the kitchen. The iphone has a huge range of apps that are dedicated to the art of cooking. Knowing which ones to choose is a little tricky though. Here is a low down of the top five cooking apps.
Number one is Jamie Oliver’s 20 Minute Meals. There are over 50 recipes available with this app plus Jamie offers personalised tips such as knife skills, how to cook the perfect steak and how to properly use a cutting board.
Ifood assist is another really cool app. You choose your main ingredient and the type of meal, i.e. breakfast, lunch and dinner then the app offers a whole load of recipes for you to choose from and you can choose based on difficulty level and total time required. It also has 40 cooking videos offering a variety of cooking tips.
Epicurious has the widest selection of recipes available for a cooking app. It boasts over 25,000 recipes, a shopping list and ratings from others who have tried the meals.
All recipes is another crowd pleaser in terms of sheer number of recipes plus you can choose vegetarian, gluten-free and diet options and you can choose by ratings from other users.
Look and taste offers step-by-step guides via video, making it perfect for novice cooks. It also has a huge glossary of terms and one of the most navigable user interfaces of any cooking app.
The iphone has recently arrived to the Vodafone network, so if you haven’t already got the handset then check out the iphone page for the latest offers on the new 3GS.
