


Seasoning a Tandoor clay oven




FIG 1. Close the oven door, place in 4 fire lighters. When positioning the fire lighters, try and leave aprox 50mm - 3/4" between the oven wall and the fire lighters.
FIG 2. Place the charcoal briquettes in between the fire lighters.
FIG 3. Gently place more briquetts over the fire lighters covering the entire area, but leaving exposed enough of the fire lighters so you can light them.
FIG 4. Light all 4 fire lighters, then cover with another two layers of briquetts. Go to stage 2

Fuel. When possible always use charcoal briquetts, they burn hotter and last longer. Never burn wood or any other materials other than charcoal. It will damage the clay.

Each TandooriQ has been partly fired prior to shipping and will have deposits of lumpy soot on the side of the clay walls. Before the oven can be used for cooking it must go through a a slow burn simmering process for at least two hours. This will enable the clay to fully set and harden.
The TandooriQ uses approximately 1 kilo of charcoal per hour. Over a 2 hour simmer you will burn 2 kilos
